What does the European Accessibility Act mean for you as a publisher?

June 28 has been dotted in our calendars for a long time. That the EAA shook the publishing industry to its foundations is certain. Is it necessary? Absolutely, there are some exceptions but it simply becomes mandatory. Is it easy? No certainly not. We can safely say that the past few years have been a tangle of research and testing. But that does make Crius Group completely ready to unburden publishers with this.

Whatever you need, we will get you started and help you with all your eBook productions. And we do that in a variety of ways:

• For our customers working through our Core solution for semi-automated book formatting, we have accessibility already built into the process. By integrating accessibility from the source, we offer an efficient and future-proof solution.
• We are developing a new and more user-friendly ePub platform that will allow publishers to easily and quickly request (accessible) ePubs of existing publications (Word or PDF). We expect to launch this after the summer.
• And what about metadata? Accessibility also means additional metadata that needs to be included towards distributors and retailers. The ONIX format is standardly used within the chain and is ideally suited for this. Crius Group is currently building its own metadata extractor with which we read accessible ePubs for the presence of the requested metadata. This will be packaged in an ONIX file that you can upload directly to Centraal Boekhuis. And for customers with whom we work a lot, we like to explore the possibilities of linking with the ERP package. Maybe it can be done automatically that way!
