Overamstel Uitgevers was the first party to decide to use Core. And they haven’t regretted it for a moment. In addition, as the launching customer they helped shape the way in which Core was set up. How did that happen? Read on to find out!

Overamstel is always open to potentially smarter, more efficient and consequently more cost-effective ways of doing things. Of course, changes like this can never be at the expense of quality. Peter de Lange, Production Manager at Overamstel Uitgevers, kept a strict eye on this.

“Using Core would imply a totally different way of working for all the editors and production staff. The typesetting process and the way we make corrections had to be revised if we wanted to work with Core.”

Balance between standardisation and high-quality products

“As production manager, my primary task is to safeguard the quality of our books. The design has to be impeccable and ePubs have to be available almost simultaneously”, Peter stressed several times.

With Core we guarantee quality. Our total solution facilitates this entire process, but essentially just uses MS Word and InDesign. When creating the InDesign templates, Peter used the graphic expertise of our team and he can only conclude that a perfect balance was achieved between standardisation and high-quality products. The staff here are proud!

Adjustment for the entire staff

“I must admit that rolling out Core was quite a challenge. Implementing the new system is one thing, but obviously our staff had to be able and willing to work with it. It certainly wasn’t easy for them to suddenly have to start working with templates, do away with proofs and instead make corrections in InCopy themselves. But Crius Group proved to be a good and reliable partner here, as well.

They organised coaching to train our editors to work with the new system. Editors understand how the system works and appreciate the short turnaround times. They even think it’s great that now they have more control over the process.”
