Crius Group takes over the entire editorial team from Amsterdam University Press
Early 2021 and the ambitions were high. Opening an office in the Netherlands has been the dream of the team for years. Business partners Crius Group and Amsterdam University Press (AUP) therefore started a trial period to have all editorial tasks performed under the supervision of Crius Group. Their many years of collaboration reached a true high point. But why was this development so important?
Two birds with one stone for AUP
“As a relatively small publisher, we are continuously working on strengthening our position in the market. This takes a lot of time and energy and requires the necessary focus”, says Jan-Peter Wissink, General Manager of AUP. “In a dynamic market in which the digital aspect is becoming increasingly important, it is difficult to keep up with all technological developments. We have now found a solution for that,” concludes Jan-Peter. By outsourcing their editorial work to Crius Group, AUP can not only focus on the market, but AUP also has a partner that supports them in innovation.
And there is more. “By now having an experienced partner in-house, we can switch quickly and make adjustments easily”, continues Irene van Rossum, publishing director at AUP. “Over the past year, we have taken all the steps to prepare us for the transition of these activities. More editors joined Crius Group and we made several changes to the editing process. We are still improving those procedures every day.”
Establishment in the Netherlands, a logical evolution for Crius Group
This acquisition is an important development for Crius Group in several respects. After all, the Dutch market has become increasingly important to them in recent years. It was a logical step for the entire team to open a branch in the Netherlands.
Jurgen Willems, General Manager at Crius Group explains: “By taking this step, a long-cherished wish is finally being fulfilled. We are establishing our new office on Nieuwe Prinsengracht in Amsterdam, literally bringing the Crius Group team closer to our customers.”

Endless editorial possibilities for all sectors
Jordy Willems, manager typesetting & editorial services adds: “Thanks to this collaboration, we also have editors with a wealth of experience. For us, this is really a 'kickstart' and offers opportunities to expand this further. Due to the composition of our editorial teams in the Netherlands and Flanders, we do not have to limit ourselves to the academic market. We also have ample capacity in the educational and general/literary sectors.
Bright future for Crius Group
What will the future bring? Marcel van Denken, Sales Director at Crius Group is extremely enthusiastic. “Crius Group is known for its typesetting qualities and software and has wanted to move up in the content chain for some time. In Flanders we did everything necessary in terms of editing. Now we can completely unburden publishers in the Netherlands. I see this as a great incentive to further strengthen our position in the Dutch market”, says Marcel.
