Crius Update Live 2020!: Innovation matters
On September 17, 2020, we are organizing a new edition of our publishing congress, Crius Update Live ! The theme of this edition is entirely devoted to innovation.
We already raised the theme in the blog that Jurgen Willems wrote in June of last year. When creating good content, many publishers strive for innovation and (even more) to a connection with the reader. It does not matter whether it concerns general books, educational content or subject information. Everyone has his or her challenges.
Innovation is certainly not a goal itself
It is simply necessary for every publisher to be and stay successful. Of course there are different ways to achieve this. On the one hand it can involve cheaper or smarter production. This can create capacity - in time and money - to pay more attention to other matters such as marketing. Which, of course, is also on the move due to the attention economy and the hunt for likes.
In addition, it remains complicated to get the right piece of content in the desired form to the end user. In more and more cases, print is just one of the delivery formats, while for example the market share of audio books is growing very fast. And what about textbooks? This market is perhaps the most moving of them all.
Which "obstacles" do you need to overcome to be successful?
Technology definitely is and of course an important one, but certainly not the only one. The Dutch language area is limited, so the range to invest is not infinite. And what about your employees? If your processes change, they have to take part in this. That is perhaps the most difficult part.
The last few months we have been busy putting together a program that highlights all these perspectives. The approach that you are used to will change slightly. The content of the program was always made for and by publishers from the Netherlands and Flanders. But now we are going broader. One of the larger Danish publishers and a couple of relevant technical companies are coming to Crius Update Live! Furthermore, the recipe remains the same. An inspiring day with a strong substantive program. And this with enough time to network with visitors who work almost exclusively within a publishing house. And of course we also have the necessary news to tell you.
In the coming weeks you will learn more about the program. Do you agree that innovation is "fun", but also necessary?
