Accessible and inclusive publishing… There is light at the end of the tunnel

The fact that the requirements for accessible publishing are becoming increasingly strict is, of course, not a news flash. But who can follow in this very complicated matter? Because what about the legislation and what should be included and what not? It is a theme that Crius Group receives many questions about. But don't worry, we have started working on it and above all ... we are ready to help publishers with this!

E-books will soon have to be provided with accessibility metadata. That means a lot, but what impact does this ePub variant have on publishers? Crius Group, as a typesetter and e-book developer, also had to look at how we should adapt our processes to these new developments.

Test, test and test again

So what have we done? An internal working group has been set up within Crius Group, which is specifically concerned with this theme. They mapped out what needed to be changed in our own processes and that is now completely clear. Take our textbook software solution, Core, for example. In addition to a print-ready PDF for printing, an ePub also rolls out of the system as standard. With the arrival of TPUB, we have to take a lot more things into account and it can no longer be automated as before. Crius Group wouldn't be Crius Group if we didn't try to automate as much as possible. After all, that saves publishers time and costs!

Now we are in full preparation so that we can soon make conversions to the new accessible ePubs for all our customers. Until then, it's mostly testing. We have already produced a number of accessible ePubs for a few of our customers and these are currently being thoroughly tested and validated.
