Core, the next chapter!

New version with new possibilities

'A new way of typesetting,' was how we launched Core seven years ago. The message was compelling: Core makes book formatting dramatically easier and cheaper, without compromising on quality. Since then, Core produced thousands of books and we built strong collaborations with some of the largest publishers in our market, including VBK Media, Overamstel Uitgevers and HarperCollins Netherlands. Most recently, we welcomed LannooMeulenhoff to this group.

We are now ready to write the next chapter in the Core story and are busy developing an entirely new version with an additional feature set that includes:

• E-books: meeting new regulations and the requirements of digital-only publishing, e-books will soon be 'accessible' by default and an 'E-only' option will be added as a standard feature.
  
• Audiobooks: the demand for audiobooks is growing while production cost remain incredibly high. Core will offer an alternative solution.
• Machine translation: many publishers are already experimenting with multi-language publishing. Core will strike a new balance between cost and quality.

Multimedial platform

We strive to make the system even more accessible and user-friendly. In short, we are going to convert the current ‘book machine’ into a completely new platform that is easy to use, multimedial, and central to the production of all delivery formats. And of course, AI will also play a role in making this happen.

Importance of rights holders

We acknowledge the sensitivity around the use of AI in the creative industry. Crius Group remains in close dialogue with all rights holders about new developments and will always give the highest priority to the interests of these parties.

Core international

Publishers in our home market already love Core and it’s time the rest of the world discovers it too. We’re planning to roll out Core abroad and have found a partner for this in Pieter Swinkels, former CCO of Rakuten Kobo.

Pieter worked as an editor and publisher at various publishing houses, including De Bezige Bij, Amsterdam. In 2011, he moved with his family to Toronto. Pieter joined the Canadian e-reading platform Rakuten Kobo and launched Kobo with competitive book offerings in numerous countries. As Chief Content Officer, he then became responsible for the development of the Kobo Plus subscription, the indie publishing platform Kobo Writing Life and the Kobo Originals publishing program. Last fall, Pieter joined the Translantic Agency as Director of Operations and Literary Agent and started The Junction Media to use his experience in the international publishing and content-industry to participate in organizations looking to internationalize or verticalize.
